A group of United States based non-profits and their affiliate in Ghana, have commended the Ghana government for approving the use of natural herbs to compliment that of orthodox medicine in some accredited government hospitals in Ghana. The groups are the International Center for African Culture and Arts ( ICACA), the OBAATANPA House Of Hope International and the Center for African Traditional Medicine and Faith Practioners.  The Call was made by the executives of the organizations during a forum hosted by the OBAATANPA House of Hope International as part of its annual celebration of African culture at the International African Arts Festival in New York, USA.    Dr. Kwabena Asante of    For countless indegenous reasons herbs and herbal medicines have received the largest of audience since.It has been one of the oldest form of healthcare in Ghana and worldwide. Indeed About 60% of orthodox drugs have plant origin. Talk of the aspirins(for pain relief) , digoxins (for certain heart condition),and the artesunates (for malaria) But Why has herbal medicine received the least of recognition? Probably of how it has been tagged by modern medicine practise, its emergence,”ghost” policies, and how a lot of others practised it, attatching it to spritism and most often delivering the service for their own personal gains. Across the country herbal institutions especially the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and other institutions are doing their best to retore the image of the practice through professional training  for a period of six years, less or more, depending on the institution. The research institutions, although haven’t done much have recently began partnering few clinics too in the country  to also help enhance and rocket the practise. Currently there are 16 accredited hospitals(by the ministry of health) across the country that provide herbal medicine service. So Whenever you visit a public hospital, request to see a medical herbalist just  in case you prefer a herbal medicine/service.Dont forget you have the right to choice..
