Dear Prekese, I am 24yrs and is dating this sweet guy 26. The problem is that he drinks too much. I have spoken to him but he is not listening. He sometimes drinks so much that he disgraces me and my friends tease me all the time. What shd I do? COMMENTS: Zenabu Bawa drinking is a problem, what he needs is your help, even though it might feel like he is not listening he hears you-old habits are hard to break.       Being alcoholic is a disease by itself, if there is a group help like the AAA in your community... where the group help alcoholics to stop drinking alcohol take him with you to the group, i am sure he will appreciate it.  Dont take his bad behaviour personally-alcohol is like the devil it takes over the good in that person and make them act negatively-it is the alcohol that makes him act that way-does he treat you or disrespect you like that when he is not drunk?               Think of how sweet he is, stay with him and help him out cos you might go for a sober guy and will treat you even worse than your drunken man-take his alcoholism as if it is any other disease-except that he is addicted to alcohol and the side effects are not pleasant.     Also get some of his friends or family members whom he listens to to talk to him especially his parents, talk to him when he is sober and try not to go out with him (together) when he is drunk cos you know what will happen and avoid him if he sees you with friends and he appears drunk. Remember it is not him doing this to you it is his addiction, has he ever apologised to you when he is not drunk, sometimes this is the way a love one will cry out for help-by being mean but they dont mean to hurt anyone, try your best and nurse him out of this disease-i bet he will be even sweeter than you thought he was.
